Welcome!

For nearly two decades, RoadMap has accompanied leaders, organizations, and movements working for social and economic justice. Our work begins with listening: to what movement leaders are experiencing, to the patterns emerging across organizations and ecosystems, and to what people on the front lines need to meet the moment.

That listening led us to launch the Movement Strengthening Initiative nearly two years before the 2024 election. We knew intensifying authoritarianism was not new, and we wanted to better understand what strong, connected movement infrastructure would require—and the role movement-rooted capacity builders could play in helping build it.

We encourage you to start with the brown paper, which lives right next door and offers a deeper exploration of the role capacity building can and should play in resisting authoritarianism and building a just and inclusive democracy. Then explore the 2026 report, which draws on surveys, focus groups, interviews, and RoadMap’s ongoing practice to examine what movements are facing, how capacity builders are responding, and what promising practices are beginning to emerge.

We created these resources for movement leaders, movement-rooted capacity builders, and funders who are thinking about how to strengthen movement alignment, resilience, and collective power for the long haul.

We hope you’ll read, reflect, share, and build on what you find here. This work is not meant to be the final word. It is an invitation to keep learning together—and to keep building the connective tissue our movements need.
